Suzhou is an ancient city on the lower reaches of the Yangzi River, only 30 minutes by high-speed train from Shanghai. With over 2,500 years of history, it retains its ancient atmosphere, yet has recently added nearby 21st century districts. The Old City's canals, stone bridges, pagodas and gardens make it one of the top tourist attractions in China. Suzhou is often dubbed the “Venice of the East.” The Suzhou Industrial Park, beside Jinji Lake, lies to the east of Suzhou's Old City. It hosts 3,200 international companies, of which 76 are Fortune 500 members. Just south of the Suzhou Industrial Park is the Dushu Lake Science, Innovation and Education District, home of several universities, as well as high-tech and creative companies in biomedicine, nanotechnology, integrated communication, software design, animation and digital media.
